Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables (although, in all seriousness, I think I was more in love with Anne)

Jaxom from The White Dragon by Anne McCaffrey. My English teach got me on to the Dragonriders of Pern when I was 13 and those books saw me through high school, but Jaxom was always my favourite.

And I have to concur with Caro about Atticus Finch. Especially as, post film viewing, I can only ever see him in my imagination as Gregory Peck. Swoon!

Will Parry from the His Dark Materials trilogy. Erik from the Sookie Stackhouse Series. (I'm not a fiction snob) Louis from the Anne Rice novels...oh and the beautiful Henry from Audrey Niffenegger's Time Traveller's Wife.

Lunch with Sam sounds like it will be a great experience and opportunity for many. I'll have to bookmark The Lifted Brow and check out what stuff I might be able to send them.

Things I love about the internet #251: It brings together niche groups with quirky interests. Where else do you go for advice on writing in the shower? You guys are great!

Some guy on twitter is following people, and when one follows back he does an auto direct message (ADM) with a link for a shower note pad! But me personally,I go to office works- they have A4 Spiral bound note pads sold as a pack of five for around five dollars. I have them everywhere! In fact one either side of me as I write, one in each car and pens every where!! Waking at 3.00 am ( it's now 1.43 am ) to write an important idea that i was dreaming about!

Caro, what about the boards that divers use underwater? That would be good for writing in the shower. For effect and extra creativity, you could even put on the diving mask. Don't wear the snorkel, though, because it fills up in the shower...

Hi Kirstie,
You know what - I tried the little portable notebook thing, but there's something about the chaos of a scrunched-up piece of paper that I like better. But I'm glad it works for you... and even more glad that you wait for the red light before scrawling!
And Parlance: That happens to me too! Also, I've always wanted someone to invent waterproof books you can stick on the shower wall, so I could read AND wash my hair. When I was a kid I used to blu-tak pages to the glass, but the fog made it too hard to read...

I want someone to invent a waterproof notebook I can hang in the shower, because that's where I get my ideas. During the drought, it was comforting to know the water was running out through a hose on to the garden from the shower, as I stood there and dreamed up wonderful prose that was gone like a puff of smoke by the time I toweled myself dry.

I used to keep a little notebook (a freebie for donating money to some charity) and a pen in the driver's door pocket of my car and when stopped at lights could often be seen furiously scribbling down the words that just popped into my head.
I love the imagery of "the persistence and creepy devotion of a Hollywood starlet and her undersized dog". What a brilliant line.

How timely! Thanks for the link on cutting words in a manuscript.
I've been laboring over a finished story that is 6500 words instead of less than 5000 and each night I work through a section and take out 100. Given that I've worked and reworked this story many times, I'm amazed at how many unnecessary words it still has. I'll go back yet again with these ideas in mind.
