42 is better than 1 (writers that is)

Some of the UK’s leading writers are joining together to use the power of the pen for good. The writer’s will publish a short story, essay or poem attacking the British government’s plan to push legislation through that will allow them to hold terrorist suspects without charge for 42 days. The list of writers (42 in total) include Philip Pullman, Julian Barnes, Monica Ali, Ian Rankin, Alain de Botton. This very public attack on the government has been organised by campaign group, Liberty and highlights the debate on detention without trial. I don’t know where they are going to publish their writing but it will be interesting to see if this affects any major change.
